The Bad Tempered Ladybird

Since today is World Book Day, I thought it would be nice to do some book related activities with my youngest. She's loved books from a very young age and The Bad Tempered Ladybird by Eric Carle is a firm favourite. So today we read this again had a play on our ladybird wheelybug and thought about some ladybird crafts to do. We started with a couple of white paper plates, which she painted red all over, then splodged black fingerprints on top for the ladybirds spots. While this was drying we made a very simple paper plate clock using another plate. We used a split pin to allow the hands to move round. She was able to help with the numbers by telling me which number we needed to write next for each hour. My little one has a very rudimentary grasp of time concepts but it was a good way to show her how different times relate to doing different things like tea time and bed time. Then we went back to the ladybird plate and cut it in half to make 2 wings, we secured each of these at the top of the plate clock using split pins so they would open and close. Then pinned it proudly to the notice board ready to show her sister when she comes home from school.
